How full is your glass today, friend? Is your tank feeling a bit low? Is that a gross understatement of where you are and how you are feeling?
I’m sure for many of us, we are just spread too thin and still fearful for the future, if we are honest. While our homes and plates may be full, our hearts may be feeling a bit drained. If you are in that place today, I hope today’s message gives you some hope!
Our pastor shared an illustration in his message this weekend that I just can’t get out of my mind. He had a glass of water, half full, on the table. This glass represented the emptiness many of us are feeling, our lack, our need, our questions about the future. Naturally, we find ourselves looking at the need, fixated on the lack, worrying about what we will do and what might happen.
All we can see are empty places in desperate need of God’s supply. And, yet, here is God, standing beside us. And I hear him saying, “Honey. I created the ocean.”
I wish I could create a visual that captures what I’m seeing and hearing in this illustration!!
A meme that is like:
ME: God, the glass is almost empty!!
GOD: “Honey, I created the ocean….”
In his gentle, yet firm way, he reminds us that he has more than enough to meet every need! He IS enough to fill our cups, which are so tiny in comparison to the immensity and abundance of our generous Father. If we can get our eyes off our emptiness and onto his supply, I think we might be surprised at how he moves on our behalf! This is my encouragement for you today: Keep your eyes on the fullness of God not the emptiness of your situation.
God promises that our cup will not only be full, but overflowing! I saw this post on social: Optimists see the cup half full, pessimist, half empty, and the Psalmist, overflowing! So good! Read God’s promises for yourself:
You anoint me with the fragrance of your Holy Spirit; you give me all I can drink of you until my heart overflows. So why would I fear the future? (Psalms 23: 5-6)
Yes, feast on all the treasures of the heavenly realm and fill your thoughts with heavenly realities, and not with the distractions of the natural realm. (Colossians 3:1)
God wants to fill our hearts today with reminders of his love and care, of his abundance and his goodness. He won’t let us down.
My assignment for you today is to find a picture of the ocean…or a video on YouTube, and let that serve to remind you, to build your faith and to assure your heart that God will come through!
Father, I pray today, you will fill our hearts to overflowing. Even as we look away from our lack and onto your abundant goodness, fill our hearts and minds with your peace and presence. Remind us again and again, that those who love you will never lack any good thing, amen!
