about
Gosh, I have been writing forever. I remember writing a poem in 7th grade that the girls passed around for days crying over. I guess I have always processed my life through words. My stack of journals is a testimony to that!
I have been blessed to be able to use my gift for writing and communication in a professional way for the past 10 years. I started out five years before that writing as The Homeschool Encourager. This was such an awesome ministry! Mainly I wrote a weekly devotional called the Weekly Word which I emailed out each week. I was always humbled and thrilled when I heard back from moms who were touched by the devotionals, and felt like God was reaching out to them through my words. That has always been one of the greatest rewards of being a writer…
I did a little bit of speaking at homeschool support groups and conferences. Loved that too! Finally, I created a series of booklets and art pieces with prayers for homeschooling families. I sold quite a few of these at conferences and such. Oh, I also got published in a couple of homeschooling magazines and websites. I loved being the Homeschool Encourager…but after my kids were gone for a few years, I felt God nudging me to move on.
A friend of mine was bugging me to apply for this job she had seen. It was at a Christian ministry where she went to church and she just knew I would be great at it! Finally, I gave in and applied. Later that month, I accepted a position as staff writer. I couldn’t believe it! I was actually going to get paid for writing? This was a first. Other than selling my booklets, I had never made money as a writer. It really was a dream come true.
I loved the challenge that came with this position. I had never really worked outside the home, so learning the culture of the organization and the routines that come from being a working woman was exciting. Then I began to get good at my job and loved working with the other writers. Due to a health condition, my supervisor had to be away from the office for six months. I asked if I could be the manager in her absence and they agreed. Now I was responsible for the monthly magazine, training of the staff, reviews, etc. It was awesome. I absolutely loved being a mentor and coach to the writers. I believe they were better for it, too.
Fast-forward a few years to when the organization decided to create a Web Director position. At first glance they weren’t sure if I was the right candidate, but after an outside hire fail, they offered me the job. That is what I still do now. I manage a great team of web developers and strategize our online presence. It’s great.
In my non-work life, I live in Colorado with my husband, Mark and my cat, Rosco. Still love writing for fun (or profit!) We attend church with my two grown sons and enjoy many family adventures together. Just recently we discovered The Settlers of Catan game; I foresee many evenings around the table with that one. I feel God is leading me into a new season of life, but I’m not sure what that means yet. If you stay tuned here, you can follow the journey with me.
Hopefully the posts on my site will encourage you in your walk with God. I’m not the deepest thinker around, but God is always teaching me something. I always have thoughts and ideas about life and our Christian living, so hopefully you’ll enjoy those too. Please share with me as I still love feedback…
