managing or leading
Oct 24
Often we think we are leading when actually we are really managing.
This is true in the work world (or church or ministry world) but it’s also true in our personal worlds.
I may think I am leading the way-in my relationship with God, with others, in my personal habits, in my household…when in reality I am merely managing. When (like Martha) I am concerned with details, dos and don’ts, should be and should haves, I am missing the opportunity to lead with vision. To lead by example. To lead with love.
Jesus was a leader in every scenario of his life. He led quietly at times, forcefully at others. Yet, he consistently left the managing (the details, the day-to-day-operations of his life and ministry) in his Father’s hands.
A good lesson for us, perhaps?

After spending 9 years with a non-profit in the Denver area, I joined the Group Publishing team in 2010. I have the awesome privilege of working with ministry leaders and offering support and encouragement with those who work with church volunteers.
When I am not at Group, I am meeting with writers across the country encouraging them to pursue their dreams! I hope that my story and experiences will encourage you, too.
